Budge Playgroup Terms and Conditions

Last Update: March 27th, 2015

Please review these technical and legal details about Budge Playgroup. The Budge Studios Privacy Policy is available here.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you experience technical difficulties, please contact us at playgroup@budgestudios.ca.

What is Budge Playgroup?

Budge Playgroup is a confidential closed playtesting program. Budge Playgroup allows kids and parents to actively participate in the creation of Budge apps, by testing our apps before they’re released. We think of it as a secret club.

What’s involved?

You’ll receive exclusive access to unreleased Budge apps, with a chance to tell us what you like and don’t like.

What’s in it for me?

Lots! If you are selected to participate in one of our playtests, you get to experience new Budge apps before anyone else. You’ll also have the chance to make them better by sharing your input! Plus, as an official tester, your kid’s name* could appear on the credits (*optional, with parental consent only.)

Who can sign up?

The program is open worldwide to parents or legal guardians of 2-10 year old kids. Budge Playgroup is only available on Apple® devices with iOS 8 or later.

Except for Budge Studios employees, Budge Playgroup is closed to employees or contractors of video and computer game developers and publishers.

How do I sign up?

Kids must have a parent or legal guardian sign up for them. Simply fill out and submit the online registration form. Please note that after you submit your registration we will contact you and ask you to complete a consent form.

Can I tell my friends or others?

For legal reasons, you cannot talk about the apps you test. As a Budge Playgroup tester, you have access to highly confidential information, which is why we require you to sign a Confidentiality Undertaking.

Since the apps you will test are top-secret, you won’t be able to post online or talk about them UNTIL they are released to the public on the App StoreSM. However, we encourage you to discuss the program itself, and tell your family and friends that you are a proud Budge Playgroup Tester. For example, you could say: “I get to test upcoming apps for Budge!”, but you cannot say: “I’m testing an app about puppies who love fashion and wear cute outfits” or “I am a tester for the Miss Hollywood app”.

Will I have to pay for content when I test an app?

For the duration of the testing period, you will have free access, in strict confidentiality, to the entire unreleased beta version of the app, including packs that would otherwise be available for purchase.

When you tap on locked packs in an app you are testing, you will see a message confirming you want to “buy” that pack. On the bottom, you will notice a disclaimer explaining that you will NOT be charged. You can tap “Buy” and unlock the pack for free.

Will I receive any type of compensation for participating?

Budge Playgroup is a voluntary program. Budge Playgroup uses Apple’s TestFlightTM software, which stipulates that beta testers cannot be compensated.

What information does Budge Studios collect?

Information collected during registration is maintained in confidence by Budge Studios, and is used according to the Budge Studios Privacy Policy. We mostly use it to communicate about Budge Playgroup, and to match you and your child to an appropriate app.

Anonymized information will be collected through the testing period for Budge Studios’ internal activities. Please read our Privacy Policy for more information.

Also, please note that we are conducting Budge Playgroup with Apple’s TestFlight software. Please review the TestFlight Terms and Conditions, which you will be deemed to have accepted, each time you participate in a playtest.

What happens once the playtest is over?

At the end of the playtest, the application may be deleted from you device, and any in-app purchases that were available for free during the playtest may no longer be available.

Can I terminate my participation in the Budge Playgroup?

Yes, you can terminate your participation at any time by emailing us at: playgroup@budgestudios.ca

What is expected of me?

Budge Playgroup aims to help us make the best apps for kids. As a tester, we trust that you will explore our app and all its features, and will provide critical, constructive feedback.

Playtests are part of the normal development process of an app. This means that the design is not yet final, and that there may be bugs we haven’t squashed. The version you test will be different than the version you download later on the App Store.

You do not need to have any technical knowledge of game design or development to test our apps. However, you will need to be familiar with your Apple device and the App Store, and have an iTunes® account. You will be required to download TestFlight from the App StoreSM and install it on your device.
